Dress update and A Doll Quilt

We finally chose yellow eyelet for the dress for EJ. Oy. Way too many choices. I have yet to cut it out! IS that bad? I'm sure I can get it done in two weeks. I just forgot how many, many steps there are to sewing clothes. It will be wonderful when it is done. So wonderful (I hope) that she will forget about the one she saw at the store and really liked.

I made this little doll quilt over the weekend just because. I like the red binding but not the print. Good learning anyway. I still have to hand sew the binding on. Just haven't felt the urge to hand sew yet. Inspired by this blogger who gives a great tutorial on doll bedding including pillows!!

Quillow for WH

WH had his 3rd birthday three weeks ago and I am finally finished making his quillow. I've had the pocket done for a while but no time to finish piecing the rest. He is getting some bright primary colors. He picked out the Miss Spider fabric. I wish I had put Miss Spider on the outside (visible when the blanket is open) but I don't want to unstitch it!

The pocket has a wiggly web sewn. Could not get straight lines and so embraced the wonkiness! A contrasting color might have worked better but he loves it so I'm happy. "Best Buddy" is one of his favorite phrases. Dad is his best buddy.

Brushfire Project blocks

I finally had some time to make the star blocks for this project. I managed to make 4 and love them all. I was a fast and fun project. I am going to use this pattern to make a baby quilt for one of Scott's co-workers. Vary the sizes...lots of fun. I even managed to get them in the mail in a timely manner. I hope the people who receive the quilts feel our love.

I follow this blog and today she posted about the wild fires in Australia. Another great blogger is putting together quilts to send at Bushfire Project. This is the flickr group and you can join and help if you like. I'm going to try and get a couple make today in between everything else.

Done with v. 3

Here is the block I've been enjoying the past couple of days. Added the borders on 3 sides and then had to run and pick up kids. I like the angles on the dark aqua color.

The completed block with much fussing along the way. I think I like the final product. something is still not quite there but I am satisfied enough. I ripped out several tries before coming up with this.


All three blocks together, though not in order. Third, first, second. I am going to take off the left and bottom sides of block one and add larger pieced blocks that won't cause havoc in the seam allowance

Project Improv v.3

So I've been cleaning and not much else for the past week. First on my list now that I'm sewing again is the block for this project. I love diamonds and decided try number 3 should start with a diamond. I like the start but now I'm stuck with the what to do next...hopefully I can finish it tonight and get it mailed off this week.

Dress Fabric Dilemma

So EJ is getting baptized in March and I am going to venture out to make her a dress. I have decided that it's not going to be white. I just want it to be a special dress. I've decided to combine two different 1950's party dress patterns. I am going to take the sleeve from the size 6 (no. 2) and the rest from the size 10 (no. 1). If only I could have found a size 8 but I am not going to buy more patterns, though there are lots on ebay.


We went fabric shopping the other day and it was less than successful. We did make some progress though. She would like either yellow or blue. Paisley or polka dots. Though I did find this great pintuck fabric in white. I refrained from buying it.


This is the paisley I have that she likes only it would be "great" in yellow. Hmm....Not as easy to find as I was hoping. I guess I have all of February to find the fabric and scramble to complete the dress in March.



Another thing, do I need to make a slip to go under this to make it fluffy? I am putting off thinking of how hard this is going to be until I finish some other projects.


I am going to try the mall and see if we can find anything that would fit the bill of great party dress that is wonderful and modest. But I think those kind of dresses are out of my price range! I remember this great pink and white dress that seriously twirled. My grandmother bought it for me as it was around $80. I loved that dress. That is the kind of feeling and memory I am going for.
